Judith Herschell Receives Presidential Award at AWWA/AMTA Membrane Technology Conference
Pittsburgh, PA, March 31, 2014 – Judith Herschell, President of Herschell
Environmental in Pittsburgh, is the recipient of the 2014 American
Membrane Technology Association’s (AMTA) Presidential Award. The award
was conferred during the 2014 AWWA/AMTA Membrane Technology
Conference and Exposition, which Herschell chaired. It acknowledges
individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and
development of the Association.
Herschell is a respected consultant in the water treatment and engineered
systems industries. During her 29 year career, she has held executive
positions in water treatment companies and served in important leadership
capacities in various professional associations. In addition, she has been a
presenter and seminar instructor at many national and regional professional
conferences and has author numerous articles under the banner of “The
Treatment Room” for American Water Intelligence, part of Global Water
Intelligence. She has also reported on the water industry for various industry
publications.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Geneva
College, Herschell has been a member of AMTA, American Water Works
Association (AWWA), Water Environment Federation and the Marcellus Shale
Coalition.
Herschell noted, “It was an honor to serve as chair and to be recognized by
AMTA with the Presidential Award. The Program Committee, in concert with
both professional organizations, organized an exceptional conference,
bringing excellent value to the attendees.”
The AWWA/AMTA Membrane Technology Conference and Exposition is the
premier event for membrane technology and its applications in North
America. Since 2012, it has been hosted jointly by the AWWA and AMTA.
This year’s event took place in Las Vegas on March 10-13, and under
Herschell’s oversight, was the most successful to date.
Attended by more than 1,100 delegates, the conference featured 115
technical papers and 58 poster presentations, three pre-conference
workshops, two facility tours and a full exhibit hall featuring
innovative membrane products and services, as well as exhibit
hall networking sessions. The technical sessions provided attendees
information on the latest membrane developments and research.

Herschell Environmental Receives Recertification from WBENC
Herschell Environmental is proud to announce that the firm has successfully completed its WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council) recertification. The firm was initially certified in June 2004.
WBENC’s national standard of certification is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a woman or women.
WBENC is a resource for the more than 700 US companies and government agencies that rely on their certification as an integral part of supplier diversity programs.

Judith Herschell has over two decades of experience working in advanced water treatment and engineered systems, with a particular emphasis on membrane filtration. As a skilled commercial and general manager, she has been a key component in the success of several high-technology companies. She earned a BS in Psychology and a BS in Biology from Geneva University, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a MS from California University of Pennsylvania.
